Duffy Assembly

Today we had a duffy assembly and our visitors were Henry and Robert Rakate. Last time we saw Henry was at Tamaki Primary last year. He said that Robert Rakate inspired him. Robert was very funny and entertaining. Robert told us about his year eight child. Robert played the Brown Wiggle. Robert Rakate used to work at Mai.FM and then moved to the Breeze. His favourite book was an Astrix book.

For the past few weeks Rooms 12 and 11 have been learning about pest and how they thrive in our environment. We had to find out what the local pests are in New Zealand. At first I didn't know much about pests, but as we were learning about pests this is what I found out.

All About Pests

Pests are unwanted insects and animals that crawl into people's houses and attack farmers crops, food and livestock. They are creatures that hang around filthy areas.

Pests like rats carry different diseases. Its bite causes people to be sick. It causes fever and rashes on your body. Blood comes out of your mouth, nose and under your skin. Eventually people will die.

There are many types of pests but the most dangerous one of all is the mosquito. The mosquito carries the disease called malaria. This disease causes people to vomit, itch, fever, headache and nausea. The malaria could kill humans.

Armadillos also carry diseases like leprosy. It will cause muscle weakness, numbness in the hands, arms, feet, and legs and skin lesion. Leprosy rarely causes death but if untreated it causes much disability.

Pests are dangerous, carrying so many diseases. Their diseases are very deadly and could kill people. They overrun people's homes and damage crops. Every pest is cruel to humankind.
